Setting Sail with Seamless MXNet 10G SDVoE Integration on a 207-Foot Mega Yacht

Luxury demands performance—especially aboard a 207-foot, five-deck mega yacht designed for a billionaire owner with sky-high AV expectations. AVPro Edge’s MXNet 10G SDVoE platform delivered the uncompromising AV-over-IP performance this floating palace required.

Elite AV for the Open Seas

Serving 12 guests and 18 crew, the yacht’s AV system had to deliver zero-latency, full 4K content from bow to stern. At the core is a fiber-based 10G network anchored by three AC-MXNET-25G-SW48HQ switches in a star topology with 100G fiber uplinks, using link aggregation and RAG7 load balancing for seamless SDVoE multicast traffic.

Purpose-Built for Marine Integration

The system includes:

  • AC-MXNET-10G-CBOX controllers
  • AC-MXNET-10G-TCVR and TCVR-AVDM units
  • AC-MXNET-POE-PSU24 and AC-PSU-12V-3A power solutions
  • AC-MXNET-HDRACK mounting systems

With only one Ethernet port per room, 1GbE passthrough on 34 TCVR units allowed connection of 4-channel amplifiers, minimizing cabling while preserving performance. VLAN 40 and IGMP snooping isolated traffic and maintained backbone integrity.

Initial IT/AV misconfigurations caused network instability. AVPro’s MXNet team conducted a full audit, resolved VLAN and trunk port conflicts, and implemented best practices—proving cross-discipline collaboration is critical in hybrid deployments.

Eaton’s Tripp Lite Series In-Line Surge Protectors

Eaton’s Tripp Lite series in-line surge protectors safeguard equipment against damage caused by power surges, electrostatic discharge (ESD), and cable discharge events. Available for network, Power over Ethernet (PoE), and video equipment, in-line surge protectors are great for a variety of applications, including digital signage installations, home theaters, and security systems.

Since the surge protection is unidirectional, two in-line surge protectors, connected in a series, are required to protect both the source and the connected device.

In-line network surge protector

Connect the in-line network surge protector (model B110-SP-10G) between a network source and connected device using Cat5e/6/6a/8 cables and ground it with the included wire. The surge protector supports data transmission speeds up to 10 Gbps without signal degradation. Mount on a flat surface or on a DIN rail with the optional bracket (sold separately).

In-line PoE surge protectors

Connect in-line PoE surge protectors (models B110-SP-POE-1 and B110-SP-CAT-OD2) between a PoE source and connected device using Cat5e/6 cables. The surge protectors support data transmission speeds up to 1 Gbps as well as mid-span and end-span PoE. Suitable for outdoor use, model B110-SP-CAT-OD2 is IP68 rated for protection against dust and water.

In-line video surge protector

Connect the in-line HDMI surge protector (model B110-SP-HDMI-1) between a video source and a display using HDMI cables. It supports 4K resolutions up to 3840 x 2160 at 60 Hz. Low TMDS (transition minimized differential signaling) loss ensures crisp, clean images without any static lines or other interference.
